How Dr. Cameron Clokie’s New Bone Regeneration Procedure could Change the face of Regeneration Surgery

Dr. Cameron Clokie is an interventionist concentrating in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He obtained his Doctor’s degree in Dental Surgery in 1985 and also has a Ph.D. from McGill University. He sought after by many because of how he brilliantly handles jaw surgery.

While working at the University of Toronto, he has lectured on many occasions on topics related to Dentistry. He also has numerous publications and presentations to his name. Apart from being a surgeon and a teacher, he is also an entrepreneur. He is the CEO of a company dealing in regenerative medicine. The firm, Induce Biologics Inc., provides inventive solutions in the field of musculoskeletal reconstruction.

Dr. Clokie has performed bone regeneration procedures at Mount Sinai Hospital and Toronto General Hospital to eight Canadian patients. He did this through a technique he designed, that coaxes bones to grow.

The patient develops a jawbone similar to the one lost. The procedure is a significant innovation and is way better than traditional methods where patients felt pain as a bone is taken from another part of the body and planted somewhere else. At a recent U of T conference, Dr. Clokie presented two cases. One of a patient he performed bone regeneration surgery on, a retired banker, Mr. Russel, and the second case of a young lady, Ms. McFarlane who went through hours of operation and weeks of staying in the hospital because of traditional procedures.

Ms. McFarlane could not walk for two months. Interestingly, Mr. Russel was only in the theatre for four hours and just stayed for a couple of nights at the hospital. Dr. Clokie modeled a gel containing a growth protein, BMP, into the shape of Mr. Russel’s jaw.

This new method is better than traditional procedures in many ways, and scientists and surgeons all over the world have begun using the technique and the costs are sure to go down soon enough. With more inventions and innovations similar to those of Dr. Cameron Clokie, the surgery domain is expected to be more effective.
